February 23, 1943 - May 17, 2022
Dave, a resident of Campbell River, BC, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 17, 2022, comforted by his loving family. Dave was born February 24, 1943 at Maple Creek, Saskatchewan and, at age 2, relocated with his parents Clifford and Berta Mason, to Richmond B.C.
Dave was a devoted husband, of almost 53 years, to Carol (Carolyn), loving father to Dianne and Jeffrey (Emily) and proud Granpa of Mason and Nathaniel. He is also survived by brothers-in-law Allen (Audrey) and Richard (Donna) as well as nieces and nephews.
"Emily will always remember, with admiration and gratitude, his gentle strength and loving devotion to his family's care and well-being".
Dave was employed by CIBC and following 34 years of service, retired in 1996. Not content just to sit and watch "the grass grow", he co-managed the Campbell River and Airport offices of National Tilden for 2 years, followed by another 3 years of relocating cars for a private company.
2001 saw Dave and Carol relocate to Penticton, BC, where they purchased a truck and 5th wheel trailer and enjoyed many comfortable winters as snowbirds, sightseeing almost all of Canada and the Yukon and many other camping trips with their family and grandsons.
Cruising was another of their favourite retirement experiences. Following the birth of their grandsons, Dave and Carol moved back to the Island to be closer to family. Dave also developed many loyal friendships over his years of banking, many of which continue to this day.
Over his 25 years of retirement, Dave was an enthusiastic researcher of genealogy locating many relations on both sides of his family as well as Carol's. This passion continued for the remainder of his life. He was also a keen fisherman and reader.
Our family wishes to send a special thank you to Dr. Jennifer White at the VGH Hematology Centre, CRG Wellness Centre and all of Dave's many doctors and nurses for their compassion and care.
No flowers by request. For those wishing to honour Dave's memory with a donation, consideration to the Campbell River Hospital Foundation or BC SPCA would be appreciated.
To celebrate the life of this remarkable man, a private family gathering will take place in the autumn.
Interment will be at Fort Langley Cemetery, Fort Langley, B.C.
