March 22, 1928 - November 3, 2022
In loving memory ~
It is with great sadness that we announce the unexpected passing of Daryl Douglas Pentland in his sleep on November 3rd, 2022 at the age of 94.
Daryl was born in Saint John, NB on 22 March 1928 and married his lifelong sweetheart Patricia Mary on November 4, 1950 and is now back at her side. Daryl is survived by his son David and daughter-in-law Darlene. Daryl joined the RCMP at the age of 18 and then transferred into the Military Police branch of the Canadian Forces in 1949. He travelled extensively and finished his career in 1974 after a 5-year tour in Europe. Daryl was then offered a job with the Department of Solicitor General as the PSO for Mountain Prison and retired from there in 1986. He and Patricia sold their home, loaded up their RV and just travelled through Canada and the United States until finally settling down in Parksville in 1998. Daryl was a prolific hunter, fisherman, woodcarver and loved being outdoors and spending evenings around a campfire with friends and family and always had a dog by his side.
Daryl had a tremendous circle of friends and acquaintances during his lifelong membership as a Mason and Eastern Star and was a leader in both Orders.
Heartfelt thanks to Dr. Beveridge and Nursing staff at the Palliative Unit at NRGH for their care and compassion towards Dad during his final days.
There will be no service by request. In lieu of flowers please make a donation to either the BC Cancer Society or the SPCA on his behalf.
