Cyril Colton

Cyril Colton passed away in Shuswap Lake General Hospital, Salmon Arm, BC on Sunday, June 19, 2016 at the age of 90 years with family by his side.

The funeral service will be held from the chapel of Bowers Funeral Home, Salmon Arm, on Monday afternoon, July 4th, at 1:30 p.m. with Jack Bowers the funeral celebrant.

Tributes and special memories will be shared by family and friends including music by Derek and Jarred Bolen. Anyone wishing to share a memory are welcomed to do so.

Veteran Honors will be presented by Comrades of the Royal Canadian Legion.

A reception will follow in the Mountainside room at Bowers.

Born in Woodland, Doncaster, England on February 20, 1926. Cyril came to Canada on the ship Montrose , arriving on April 1, 1928 with his parents, the late William and Annie Colton, true pioneers of the Carlin – Tappen area.

Cyril enlisted in the Canadian Army on June 16, 1944, assisting where needed in Canada.

His early years working involved logging and coal mining and work in a pulp mill, living in such places as Merritt, Fernie, Lumby and Ocean Falls. On July 4, 1953 Cyril married his sweetheart Emily Jane Whitehead and they settled on the Colton homestead to start their family where he lived until his passing.

In 1956, Cyril began a 32 year career with the Shuswap School District, driving school bus in the day and custodial work each evening. Cyril loved the outdoors, hunting with his good friend Peter Berger, fishing, family camping and annual visits to Skimikin for firewood which kept him active even into his later years. He also enjoyed gardening and capturing special moments with his video camera. His calmness and appreciation and understanding of nature gave comfort to all in his company.

Predeceased by his wife, Emily in 2007, son, Wayne in 1996, and sister, Ivy Ford in 1990.

Cyril leaves his four children, daughters, Bonnie-Ann (Graham) of Parksville, Penny (Al) of Tappen, sons, Terry (Shelley) and Steve (Marlene) both of Williams Lake; grandchildren, Joe, Robert, Thomas, Marcie, Michael, Tyler, Alexia, Jesse, Jason, Christopher, Anthony and Christy.

Great grandchildren, Kaitlyn, Billy, Danica, Brody, Markus, Nyomi, Drake, Liara, Jade, Belle, Jade, Anthony, Tess and Christopher.

Also his brother, Eric of Nanaimo and many nieces and nephews.
