August 6, 1964 - June 17, 2023
Beloved wife, mother, daughter, sister, friend and teacher, Colleen Marie Shaw graduated into the loving arms of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ at 6:29am on June 17, 2023 after a fierce fight against Ovarian cancer.
Colleen was born on August 4th, 1964 in Kimberly, BC where she grew up with her parents Joe and Louise Hill, and sisters Sherry Kasper (Kevin), Pam Strauss (Neil), Trisha O'Grady (Todd).
In 1987 at the age of 22 Colleen asked Jesus to be her Lord and Savior while being mentored by a work colleague. From that day forward the Lord stayed at the forefront of Colleen's life guiding and directing her steps. Her favourite Bible verse was Proverbs 3:5-6 "Trust in the LORD with all your heart, And lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your paths."
She met her husband Jeff Shaw in the spring of 1990 at a Passover dinner, and they married just a year later on May 11th, 1991. That fall Colleen entered the University of Calgary to get her education degrees. She had a love of learning and special way with children, always encouraging them as individuals with their own gifts and talents.
Colleen was a very accomplished and beloved teacher by all those who knew her. She taught for 25 years teaching Kindergarten through Grade 6. In 2007, she completed her Master's Degree while homeschooling her daughter Katie Throness.
She will be greatly missed by Jeff, her husband of 32 years, her children Caleb and Katie Throness (Connor), granddaughter Willow, parents Joe and Louise Hill, sisters Sherry Kasper (Kevin), Pam Strauss (Neil), Trisha O'Grady (Todd), Jeff's father Dick Shaw and sister Leslie Hautzinger, and many beloved nieces and nephews, close relatives, students and friends.
Colleen will be laid to rest at Rocky View Garden of Peace Cemetery. A Celebration of Colleen's Life is being planned for early August. Details will be updated once confirmed.
In lieu of flowers, the family is planning to purchase a memorial picnic table in Colleen's honour at Heritage park. A place she held near and dear to her heart.
