February 24, 1937 - January 24, 2024

In Loving Memory ~

Colin, fondly referred to as "Dad" by his doting daughters, "Papa" by his beloved grandsons, and "Mr. D" by his many students, passed away serenely while napping in his favourite chair on January 24, 2024, just one month shy of his 87th birthday.

He was a proud Welshman born in Bridgend, Wales, on February 24, 1937, and carried the lilting accent of his homeland all his life. Cymru am bith.

Colin was working as a teacher in Lima, Peru, when he met "the bedrock of his life," his devoted wife of 59 years, Ina. They immigrated to Canada in 1970 with their three and a half daughters (Nerissa was born a few months after they arrived).

In 1981 they discovered the Comox Valley, where Colin declared, "at least you don't have to shovel the rain!"

During his years in the Valley, Colin worked as a teacher and school administrator, and served as president of the Comox Valley Teachers' Association. He was a creative and dedicated teacher who touched the lives of many students who have continued to reach out to him over the years. He loved hearing from each one till his last day.

Colin was predeceased by his daughter Ana Maria Davies (Geoffrey) and several well-loved Boston Terriers.

He is survived by his wife, Ina, daughters Jennie, Bibiana (Tim), and Nerissa, grandsons Darryl (Beth) and Luke (Lauren), and great-granddaughter Ellie, who brought him so much joy in the final year of his life. He also has extended family in Wales and Peru.

As he wished, there will be a private family celebration of Colin's remarkable life. In lieu of flowers, Colin asked that those who remember him lift a glass in his name.

Iechid da!
