In Loving Memory ~
Charles William Hubert, of Castlegar B.C, at the age of 88 years young, passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones on Thurs, April 27th 2023 after a brief stay at Columbia View Lodge in Trail B.C. Charles, better known as Bill, entered this world on January 28th, 1935 in Lillooet, B.C.
Bill was a loving husband to Anne for 66 years and together, they had 6 children, Deb(Marty), Gary, Shirley(Ian), George(Suzanne), Gordon(Deb) and Rick(Kari). In addition, he had 17 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. With a family this size, he always kept busy, and you can be certain that every one of his children knew how to change a tire.
He was predeceased by his parents.
Bill was passionate about the outdoors, and it would be difficult to find a mountain range in the Kootenays he hadn't stepped foot on. He loved fishing, hunting, camping, quading, and snowmobiling. Later in life, he developed a passion for target shooting with his many pellet guns. He quite often enjoyed sharing this passion with his grandchildren and neighbor Scott.
Bill belonged to various clubs like the West Kootenay Snow Goers, Castlegar Snowmobile Association, and B.C. Wildlife Association. In his younger days, he won many trophies as one of the original stock car racers at Calameda Raceway.
Bill was a man of many trades and skills, including a red seal mechanic and millwright. The majority of Bill's working career was spent working at Celgar Pulp mill where he started out as a lubrication mechanic and later went on to become a millwright.
But these were not his only skills; he was also skilled in welding and metal fabrication, autobody restoration, and painting. As far as his mechanical knowledge, there was almost nothing he couldn't fix, and there was always a list of people who wanted his help.
In addition to his talents, he was gifted with an exceptional memory and intellect, which remained with him even in his last days.
Bill will be deeply missed by his family and friends.
A celebration of life will be held this summer.
