May 31, 1941 - January 16, 2023
In loving memory ~
It is with tremendous sadness that the family of Charles (Kevin) Raftery announce his peaceful passing on January 16th 2023. Left to mourn are his beloved wife Mary and daughters Emily and Clare as well as son in law Stuart Hopewell and grandchildren Naomi and Owen.
Kevin was born in East Vancouver to Coyle Patrick ad Katherine Monica on May 31st 1941 and enjoyed his childhood on Inverness Street with his boyhood friends playing games like Kick the Can. As a young man, Kevin entered into Forestry at UBC but after a time decided to explore Canada with his buddies. He worked many years in the carpentry trade as well as a stint at the Banff Springs Hotel in Alberta.
Settling down in Victoria with his first wife Tricia, they welcomed Emily in 1973. They were married 10 years. After relocating to Campbell River, Emily and Kevin were "home", and Kevin enrolled in Computer Science studies at the College. He so excelled at this that in no time he was an instructor! He retired in 2004, but his love of tutoring continued and he helped many students right up to his passing.
He met Mary at the Dalmatian Apartments in 1993 and on May 27th 1995 they were married and then blessed to have Clare, born in 1996.
They had many happy years in CR, in their garden, Miracle Beach, fly fishing and enjoying the west coast life.
Kevin was a good friend of Bill W for 45 years. He had a strong faith in God and his church.
Service to be held Saturday, February 25th at 1 pm at St. Patricks Catholic Church, 34 South Alder Street in Campbell River. Light refreshments and fellowship to follow.
Kevin was intelligent, kind and gentle and most of all a loving husband, father and grandfather.
He was a friend to all including animals and birds, and he will be missed dearly by all who knew and loved him.
