January 1, 1943 – June 16, 2023
In loving memory ~
Carla passed away at home with family by her side after a long and courageous battle with pancreatic cancer.
She was born in Rotterdam, Holland during the Nazi occupation of WWII. The family emigrated to the White Rock, B.C., area in 1954 and Carla lived and worked in the area for most of her life. In 2003 she fell in love with Fanny Bay and moved there to live out her life. She loved her home and gave lots of her energy to keeping it “just so”.
Carla was a proud member of both the Fanny Bay Seniors and the Fanny Bay Community Association. She could always be counted on to lend a hand or a smile to anyone who needed it. She was hardworking, generous, kind, funny, active and a good friend.
Carla was predeceased by her parents, Joe and Maria Luypen and survived by her sisters Maryke and Louise, daughter Kim, son Jace and beloved grandchildren: Kayla, Jasmine, Riley, and Liseana.
The family wishes to thank Dr. Lissa Benson, Dr. Madeleine Smit, CV Hospice Society, Red Cross, Home Support, N. Island Hospital – Courtenay, Cancer Care and Medical Daycare staff for all the loving, kind, and respectful care of our dear Carla. You all gave so much, thank you.
There will be a Celebration of Life for Carla at the Fanny Bay Community Hall, 7793 Island Hwy. S. in Fanny Bay on Sunday, July 16, at 1:30 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to one of the organizations listed above.
