It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Cameron Cascon at the Hamlets of Duncan on August 7, 2023.
Cameron was born in Vancouver at St. Vincent's Hospital to Alice Susan Cascon (nee Tulari) of White Lake, BC and William Anthony Cascon of Wood Mountain, SK. Upon graduating Gladstone Secondary School in 1959, Cameron attended UBC for one year. Due to economic constraints, Cameron could not afford to continue his education.
Cameron then moved to California with his older brother Don to pursue other opportunities. Missing Canada, Cameron returned to BC and re-enrolled at UBC where he met the love of his life, Deane. Upon completing his bachelor of education, Mom and Dad then moved to Quesnel for one year before settling in the Cowichan Valley in 1966.
Cameron was a well-respected teacher in the Cowichan Valley for 33 years. He often went above and beyond culminating in a field trip to England in 1972 with his school rugby team. Cameron was also involved in numerous student exchange programs including trips to Saskatchewan, Ontario, Quebec, and Newfoundland.
Cameron was also heavily engaged with the Cowichan Rugby association for a number of years. Dad believed in professional development and in 1975, he completed his Master of Education and Administration at the University of Victoria.
Dad retired from teaching in 1999 and was followed the next year by Mom. Together they made the most of their retirement as they visited close to 50 countries before health issues began to slow Dad down.
Cameron is predeceased by both his parents and his youngest son, Darin (2010).
Left to mourn his passing is his wife of 60 years, Deane, oldest son Keith (Shauna), brother Don (Judy) along with many nieces and nephews.
The last few years of Cameron's life were less than ideal as Cameron suffered with Alzheimer's / Dementia, but at the end he was surrounded with family who cared deeply for him. The ending was peaceful.
