March 3, 1933 - August 13, 2023
In Loving Memory ~
On August 13, 2023, at the age of 90, our mother passed away peacefully with her granddaughter by her side at Drumheller, Alberta.
She was predeceased by her husband Harold, son Randall, granddaughter Tiffany, parents John and Emily Owen, brother John Owen Jr., and sister Alma Hudson.
She is survived by her brother Earl (Myrna) Owen, sister Florence Kines, daughter-in-law Jennifer Rose, sons Darcy (Marlene) Rose and Jamie (Kelli) Rose, and daughter Karen (Brad) Rusnak. She is also survived by 11 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
Mom was born in Glasnevin, Saskatchewan, on March 3, 1933. She was the fourth child of five. She grew up in Glasnevin, where her father ran the Federal grain elevator and had a small farm directly across the highway from the elevator.
She graduated from Ogema High School and worked in the bank. Mom married her sweetheart, Harold, in 1952. They lived in Regina, Edmonton, and Whitecourt while dad worked in the oilfields. During this time, dad would be gone for extended periods of time, and mom would be left to tend to all of the family needs. She ruled with an iron fist, as she had three wild sons and a tomboy daughter to look after.
Life was good financially, but it was time for dad to be at home. In the summer of 1966, mom, dad, and family moved to Chase, BC, where dad worked at his sister's hardware store and mom worked at the drug store.
In 1968, our parents bought the general store in Falkland and named it Falkland Store. Mom loved the store business. They worked very hard to be successful in this venture. When most of us moved away from home, Jamie returned to help mom and dad run the store. This gave our parents an opportunity to travel to various countries for vacation.
In 2004, dad's health declined, forcing them to move to Vernon, and mom had to care for him full-time until his death in 2012. Jamie took over running the store, but mom continued to do the bookwork for the store until her health declined. It was very hard for her to let go of her store business ties. We moved her to Alberta as she was unable to live on her own. She left us a good legacy and will be greatly missed.
There will be no funeral, as per her wishes.
She will be interred at the Ogema cemetery with her husband, Harold, at a later date.
