In loving memory ~
With great sadness, the family of Barry Abbott announces his sudden passing at his home on May 5th. Barry was born and raised in Victoria, B.C. His first job was as a commercial fisherman. In 1962, Barry married his beloved wife, Ruby, and soon thereafter three boys were born; Tim in 1962, Terry in 1964 and Wayne in 1969. In 1968, Barry and the family moved to Youbou where he worked in the sawmill until he retired in 1995.
Barry loved to fish and enjoyed boating around the beautiful Gulf Islands. He was an avid bowler and enjoyed coaching his sons' hockey teams. Barry owned 2 hot rods and enjoyed going to and being a part of car shows. After the passing of his wife Ruby in 1995, Barry met a special person who became his lifelong partner, Aggie. Aggie and Barry spent many winters travelling down to Yuma, Arizona where they had a wonderful community of friends that they enjoyed connecting with each winter. Barry loved the sun and the warmth of the Arizona winters. He will also be deeply missed by his many friends that would often drop by for a backyard visit and a beer.
Barry was predeceased by his loving wife Ruby (1995), son Wayne (2000), father Arthur (2000) and mother Elsie (2008). He is survived by his partner Aggie, sons Tim and Terry (Linnea), his brother, Bruce, Aggie's children, Sid (Kim) and Tracy (Jerry), grandchildren Tyler, Brandie (Kelly), Blaise, Braeden, Jesse, Samantha, Joshua, Braden and great-granddaughters Zoey and Olivia.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, September 24, 2022 from noon till 3 pm at the Eagles Hall in Duncan.
