May 4, 2023
In loving memory ~
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Augustine Alexander Chan on May 4 2023 in Campbell River, B.C. He is survived by his wife Sylvia Chan, his daughters Andrea (Brian), Daphne (Nathan), his grandchildren Brady, Jorja, Juliette, Thorsten, Aria, brothers Martin, Humphrey, sisters Rosemary, May, Cecelia, Monica and many nieces and nephews. Gus was pre-deceased by both his parents, brothers Dominic and Joe, sister Poi-Lan and nephew Anthony.
Men Sin Chen was born in Nakelo Fiji in 1947. He was one of 10 children born to Chen Ping and Chee Chuong. Gus immigrated to Canada in 1975. He worked for Cominco as a Heavy Duty Mechanic in Pine Point, NWT. When Cominco ceased operations in Pine Point Gus moved his family to Tumbler Ridge and worked at Quintette Mines for a year and then in 1990 he took a job at Westmin Mines in Campbell River, BC. Gus enjoyed an active lifestyle playing badminton, squash, volleyball and his favourite sport tennis. He was an avid gardener and spent most of his time in his garden. Grafting was one of his specialties.
Gus will be missed by many. His dear friends Tom and Anita, Dave, Seru and Gord, Hirend and Christine, Peni and Maureen, Romi, Mike and Val, Keith, Tony, Max, Karl, Lorrie, fellow Pine-Pointers, neighbours on Cormorant St. and many many Fijian friends.
The family would like to thank all who were involved in Gus's care throughout the years. Dr. Baerg, all the wonderful staff at the hospital, and health professionals in the community. Thank-You for treating Gus with respect, dignity, and kindness.
No service by request. The family would like all who knew Gus to raise a glass of red wine, a cup of coffee or bowl of grog in memory of him. May he rest in peace. Moce.
