June 8, 1928 – April 14, 2023
It is with heavy hearts that the families of Art Wilkie and Shirley Wilkie announce his passing on April 14, 2023 at the age of 94 at Chilliwack General Hospital. Art was born in Fenwood, SK on June 8, 1928.
Art was predeceased by his parents Walter Leon Wilkie and Lydia (Werk) Wilkie, his siblings Edward, Leona, Frieda, Eleanor, Bill and Ralph.
He is survived by his wife, Shirley of 34 years, his children, David (Susan), Brian (Cathy), Jennifer Brown (Roger) and Richard (Diane) and many grandchildren and great grandchildren. He is also survived by Cathie (Blair) Clift, David (Kathy) Parker, and their children, Bradley, Kayla (Brodie) Michelle and Brent who knew him as their Poppa for the past thirty four years.
As a lifetime truck driver, Art took great pride in his profession. He worked for many organizations, but the majority of his driving years he worked for Arrow Transport, primarily in Kamloops, where he raised his family.
Through the 60’s and 70’s his favourite past-time was lake-time, spending time at the cottage he designed and built with the help of much of his family and many friends.
After Art & Shirley were married, in 1989, they spent much of their time travelling – at first in their motorhome and then later discovered the love of cruising. Some of their favourite journeys were to Hawaii, Panama, Alaska and he always loved their trips to Portland to spend time with his sisters, Eleanor and Millie and their families.
Art loved to soak in the beauty around him and share his many stories, with anyone who offered an ear.
A service to celebrate Art’s life will be held at Sardis Fellowship Baptist Church located at 45187 Wells Road, Chilliwack, BC on Monday, April 24, 2023 at 2:00 PM.
The families wish to thank Dr. E. Roux and the very kind staff at CGH who cared for him with compassion and kindness.
