Arnold A. Bergquist

February 26, 1931 – June 11, 2023
In loving memory ~
It is with heavy hearts and great sadness, we must say goodbye to our beloved father and husband. Arnold passed away peacefully and without pain while living his final years at the Yaculta Lodge in Campbell River, B.C.
Arnold was born in Enderby, B.C., to Sven and Ingebord Bergquist. He was the 2nd oldest of five children and was predeceased by his younger sister, Lita Tilley (Port Alberni), and leaves behind his sisters, Ida Prus (Port Alberni), Austy Danyliew (Duncan), and his younger brother, Alan (Comox). The family moved to Port Alberni in 1947, where they lived on 10th Avenue.
Arnold was a kind, loving, and generous husband to his wife Helen of 73 years. He was a devoted family man to his four children: Wayne (Patricia), Garry, Louanne Ralston (Ed), and Tracey Burgoyne (Ken), and to his many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was a dedicated and skilled carpenter and logger, as well as an alderman, fire chief, coach, and volunteer.
Arnold’s presence filled a room with his wonderful sense of humour and his ability to sing and play the guitar. He brought smiles and laughter to family and friends while bowling, coaching softball, camping, and fishing, as well as at family and community get-togethers. Arnold was always the first to offer help and support to any family or friends, as well as service to the communities he lived in.
After spending several decades in Port Alberni, Arnold and his family moved to Ucluelet. There he built numerous residences and buildings, and established, built, and operated a hardware & building supply store. The family then moved to Qualicum Beach, where he continued to build, eventually retiring. Arnold and Helen’s final move was to Campbell River to be close to three of their children. Arnold loved his family more than anything and will be greatly missed by his wife Helen, his family, and his friends.
Should anyone whose life was enriched through knowing this remarkable man wish to make a donation in his memory (in lieu of flowers), please do so to the S.P.C.A.
