It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of Archibald (Sonny) Thomas Conroy. Archie passed away peacefully, at the age of 90, at his home at Cottonwood Manor, Kamloops with his sons by his side.
Archie was born at Mission Hospital on June 23, 1932, to Archie Duncan Conroy and Margaret (Peggy) Conroy (Scott). Archie was the oldest of 5 children, Ronny, Ileene, Terry, and Elaine. They lived on Conroy Road in Matsqui, BC, now known as Glenmore Road, Abbotsford. Archie graduated from Phillip Sheffield High school in Abbotsford in 1950.
Archie worked with his cousin, Spud Murphy, at Murphy and Wakefield Plumbing, then went to the Yukon and worked on Gold Dredges, construction on the Kitimat Smelter, and Clayburn Brick at Kilgard.
In 1958, he joined the Vancouver City Police, and later was a member of the Matsqui Municipal Police Force. In 1971, he worked as a guard at the Kamloops Regional Corrections Center, then in 1973, worked at the Weyerhaeuser Pulp Mill until he retired in 1992.
Archie enjoyed playing soccer and baseball; he coached hockey and soccer. He enjoyed going on long hikes and riding his bike to remain active.
Archie is survived by his wife of 62 years, Barbara Conroy (Haydu), sons Brady (Colette), and Wade, grandchildren Philip, Jonathon, and Deanna; sister Ileene (Clarence) Davis, brother Terry (Gina) Conroy and sister Elaine (Pat), as well as nieces and nephews.
