January 24, 1926 - March 17, 2023
In loving memory ~
Alma, born January 24, 1926, in Headquarters, BC, died March 17 at the remarkable age of 97.
She is lovingly remembered by her daughters Leslie Cross (Gord), Jeanette Savage (Phil), Pat Day (Ed) and son John Linton (Anne). Alma was very fond and proud of her grandchildren: Erika, Richard, Cameron, Darin, Roxanne, Karina, Alexa, Clare, and Hilary. She was also thrilled to know 4 great-grandchildren: Lindsay, Everley, Madison and Mya.
She was predeceased by her husband Alex Linton in 2004, her parents Robert and Dorothy McQuillan of Courtenay, her siblings Murray, Edwin, Viola and Eleanor and her great-granddaughter Briar. She is survived by siblings Darrell, Doreen, Marion, Helen, Leona, Warren, and Bryce.
Alma grew up in Courtenay, BC. She met Alex shortly after the war while skiing on Forbidden Plateau. They married in 1947 and made their home in Campbell River.
She was a proud, energetic, and skilled homemaker and ferociously dedicated mother who shared her love of books, hobbies, sports, crafts, and gardening with her four children.
Alma loved the family cabin at Kye Bay where she enjoyed walking on the vast sandy beaches and swimming in the warm waters of the incoming tide. She travelled extensively with Alex and particularly loved Hawaii and its lovely sunny beaches.
In 2018, after a fall that broke her pelvis, she moved from the family home into Berwick by the Sea in Campbell River. When her health began to decline in 2021, she moved to the Brio care unit at Berwick on the Lake in Nanaimo. She got excellent care there, became good friends with her tablemates, participated in all the activities and routinely won at bingo.
We will remember her for her beautiful gardens, her bottomless cookie jar, her dry sense of humour, her skill at Sudoku, her financial acumen, her Sunday roast beef dinners, the way her eyes lit up when a child came into the room, and most of all, her deep, unwavering love and support for her family.
Private cremation entrusted to Yates Memorial Services. A private memorial will be held in the summer at the family cabin at Kye Bay.
