December 7, 1930 - February 23, 2023
Alison Smith of White Rock passed away peacefully at the Peace Arch Hospital on Thursday, February 23, 2023 at the age of 92. Alison was a proud Canadian but never forgot Scotland, her Native Land having been born there (Dec 7, 1930) and brought up in Edinburgh.
Alison took the big step to move to Canada alone on Sept 16, 1961 and followed her good friend Joyce Byth to Vancouver. The Byth family took her in as one of their own. Here Alison met the love of her life, Colin Smith whom she married in 1972. Colin had 3 children from his previous marriage.
Alison worked in insurance with Ken Cooke for years and became the President of the Women's Insurance Institute in Vancouver. Alison loved teaching children, whether through Sunday school, teaching piano, as a Brown Owl or with her many Choirs that she directed.
She had a passion for writing and leaves a legacy behind of children's stories, historical writings, a biography of Colin and many more.
Predeceased by her much loved husband Colin Smith (Jan 17, 2010), parents Alexander and Alison Mavor, 2 older brothers Robert (Bob) and Alexander (Sandy) and granddaughter Manda Smith.
Survived by her sister Margaret Mavor of Scotland, sister in law Mavis Smith of England, and 3 step-children. She is also survived by her much beloved 5 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren, and very close family friends Pamela Beatty (nee Cooke) and Russ Byth.
She is loved and remembered by so many additional family and friends around the world including Canada, England and Scotland.
The family would like to thank the staff at Pacific Carlton for the care they have given Alison over the years.
An online virtual memorial service will be held at 10am PDT, Saturday March 18th, 2023.
