We are heartbroken to announce the sudden passing of Alexander 'Sandy' Bruchovsky in Chilliwack, BC on January 12, 2022 due to heart failure. He is survived by his niece Kira, his nephew John, many cousins and close friends. Sandy was predeceased by his brother Nicholas and his sister Olga.
Born in Toronto, Ontario, 'Sandy', 'Bru,' or 'The Big S', was an honour roll student at both Howard School and Humberside Collegiate Institute. A 1952 "Progress Report" from Howard points out, "Sandy is a thinker and is doing well!" And indeed, Sandy sure did!
He graduated with several scholarships from Humberside and furthered his education taking General Arts at Victoria College of the University of Toronto. There he also played football and basketball and was a member of the Victoria College Athletic Union.
After graduating Vic in 1961, Sandy worked for the Financial Post and later the Canadian Bankers Association, while also enjoying many memorable wilderness canoe trips on the Little Pic River.
He was very athletic and good at water skiing and swimming, which made the rustic family cottage at Parry Sound ('Stop at Nobel, leave the car at Harrison's and take the boat to the cottage!') a favourite destination.
In the late 1990's Sandy retired, moving out west, first to Revelstoke, BC then to Chilliwack, BC where he could especially enjoy all the hiking and walking the Pacific Northwest could provide.
Sandy never complained, was always upbeat, had a lovely sense of humour and an infectious smile.
Not even some health issues later in life could slow him down.
In honouring Sandy's wishes there will be no service. Condolences and reminisces can be emailed to Bruchovsky@gmail.com.
