Trial date in Fruitvale murder could be set next month

Jordan Shimell is scheduled to appear by video link on May 4 in the Rossland Supreme Court.

The man charged with second degree murder in the death of a Fruitvale resident appeared via video in Rossland provincial court on Tuesday.

Jordan Shimell, 24, of Rocky Mountain House, Alberta is charged with the Dec. 28 murder of Scott Decembrini.

The case was adjourned until May 4 at 10 a.m. in the Rossland Supreme Court.

Shimell is scheduled to appear by video link, and a date will be fixed for his trial.

According to a court clerk, there is no record on the file that a plea has been entered.

He remains in custody at a B.C. pre-trial centre pending a set trial date.

Police arrested Shimell at the scene of the incident, following a call about a man suffering life-threatening injuries.

Decembrini, 52, was rushed to Kootenay Boundary Regional Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.

Shimell and Decembrini knew each other, but police have not revealed their exact relationship or the cause of death.
