Surrey cops hunting for sex assault suspect

SURREY — Police are looking for the public’s help in a sexual assault investigation in Newton.

A woman flagged down a Surrey Mountie on July 7, shortly after 1 a.m., and told him she’d just been sexually assaulted in the 6600-block of 140th Street.

The suspect is described as white, in his mid-30s, with a large build, bald head, mustache and possibly a goatee. He was wearing khaki cargo shorts, a colorful T-shirt and is believed to be deaf and mute. He was driving a four-door brown or beige sedan with a blue and white license plate BWXM606 of unknown origin and police believe he may be targeting prostitutes.

"A subsequent search of the area did not locate a suspect or any related evidence," Surrey RCMP Cpl. Scotty Schumann said. "Investigators with the Surrey RCMP’s Special Victims Unit are now asking for public assistance in identifying the unknown suspect male."

Police ask anyone with information to call the Surrey RCMP at 604-599-0502 and quote file number 2015-96174.
