Twelve-foot flames were reportedly seen rising from the corner of Highway 97 and 33, Friday night.

Shrubbery was seen ablaze about 100 metres from the Chevron gas station.

A gas station attendant told Capital News that they called 911 at about 8:05 p.m. and a city bylaw officer along with BC Ambulance quickly responded.

The flames fortunately did not spread but drew a large crowd. Fire crews arrived at about 8:20 p.m. and extinguished the flames.

No injuries were reported.

Those on scene said the blaze might have been started by a group of unsheltered people who may have been experiencing homelessness.

More to come.
