Work to address a sinkhole that was created when a drainage culvert collapsed in city green space in the 12900-block of Crescent Road is expected complete by the end of September.
Scott Neuman, the city’s manager of design and construction in engineering, confirmed last Wednesday that the “small- to mid-sized” sinkhole – approximately one cubic metre – was observed last year, and resulted in the area being fenced off to the public.
Access to the trail will remain restricted until repairs – estimated to cost less than $200,000 – are finished, he said.
It was an issue that, while not significant, could not be ignored, Neuman said.
“Once the pipe started failing… if we had let it go it could have led to flooding,” he said.
