Race for Kids raises $20,000

Capital One Race for Kids raises $20,000 for Boys and Girls Club.

Making $20,000 has never been so much fun.

That’s the sentiment of the organizers and participants in the second annual Race For Kids held last Saturday in Williams Lake to raise money for the Boys and Girls Club of Williams Lake.

“When I asked people if they would do it again next year, they all said they would,” Boys and Girls Club operations co-ordinator Stefanie Hendrickson said.

Fourteen teams participated in the race which saw them deciphering clues and collaborating to visit 10 different sites.

Participants said their favourite stations were the River Valley trail parking lot where they had to locate a stolen bike and match fingerprints with the RCMP there and the Williams Lake Fire Department’s obstacle course at the Calvary Temple parking lot on Carson Drive.

The only suggestion for next time was more water on the course as it was a hot day.

Premium Safety Services emerged as the fastest team, winning $200 gift certificates each to Barking Spider Mountain Bike. Second place winners, the Incredibles, won passes at Satya Yoga, mats and water bottles, while the third place team Not So Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles won fit bits.

Christina Ball was the top fundraiser, winning a Westjet voucher to fly for two.
