A GoFundMe has been started for the 28-year-old victim, Jatinder Singh, of the Sunday, April 21 stabbing on the city’s promenade, east of the pier.
“Jatinder was stabbed on Sunday night while sitting on a bench from behind at White Rock pier,” the fundraiser description reads.
The organizer of the fundraiser, Bikram Sandhu, goes on to say that Jatinder is back home from hospital with “multiple stitches, and the road to recovery is very long.”
“Jatinder doesn’t have MSP coverage and is worried about the hefty hospital bill coming anytime soon.”
Sandhu goes on to say that Singh is the breadwinner of the family, highlighting the financial strain he and his wife Manpreet will be under now.
“Please help the stress of the rent, bills and medications be lifted while he is recovering from this traumatic incident,” Sandhu concludes.
Of the $20,000 fundraising goal, $3,700 had been raised as of Wednesday morning (April 24).
Surrey-White Rock MLA Trevor Halford said he is “shocked” that Singh has to pay for his medical care.
“David Eby’s catch-and-release policies are to blame: I’m calling on Premier Eby to cover Mr. Singh’s medical expenses so his family can get back on their feet,” Halford shared in a post on X (formerly Twitter).
I’m shocked to learn that Jatinder Singh is being stuck with the bill for his medical care.

A second stabbing occurred at the waterfront just days later, on Tuesday night around the same time as the first, after 9 p.m. The male victim of the second incident died of his injuries, police say.
