A man is out $700 after a sleight-of-hand theft while the victim was in line buying a coffee on Sept. 20.
The victim had just completed a transaction at a currency exchange, and he was in possession of $1,500 in cash. He held the cash in his hand while waiting in line to buy a coffee.
A man standing behind him in line struck up a conversation, indicating he was visiting from another country and eventually took the cash in his hand to look and feel the difference. He handed the money back and the victim continued ordering his beverage.
The suspect left the store without ordering and the victim had an uneasy feeling about the interaction, said police. He took his money out of his wallet, counted it, and then found $700 was missing.
Police are reminding people not to handle cash so publicly.
The suspect is described as Hispanic, mid-30s, 5’6”, 200-250 lbs., a thin moustache, with black, spiky hair and dark brown eyes. He was wearing dark-rimmed glasses and a yellow shirt.
