Changes to how the District of Lantzville hands out grant money are coming.
Lantzville councillors approved amendments to their Grants in Aid Policy during a council meeting on Monday.
Changes to the policy include giving priority to first-time grant applicants, particularly those based in Lantzville. Council will now consider a number of factors for approval of grant money, including whether the organization’s request will benefit a large number of residents or is a start-up organization.
Groups who have previously received grant money may not be considered and council does not have to award grant money on an annual basis.
The Grants in Aid policy was first established in 2004 and was last amended in 2009. In the last amendment, council required organizations who received grant money to submit a report outlining how the money was spent. The district has set aside $2,500 in 2016 for the grants-in-aid fund.
