JulyFest preps well under way

City of Kimberley labour situation has no effect on JulyFest, Chamber manager says

JulyFest preparations are on schedule, lots of volunteers signed up, says Chamber Manager.

JulyFest preparations are on schedule, lots of volunteers signed up, says Chamber Manager.

JulyFest will be just fine, regardless of the labour situation with the City of Kimberley, says Kimberley Chamber Manager Mike Guarnery.

With the City and Steelworkers Union scheduled to head to mediation on July 13 and July 15 the start date for JulyFest, there is of course concern, but Guarnery says the Chamber has a contingency plan in place.

“Events for the 44th Annual Kimberley Julyfest are on schedule,” Guarnery said in press release Friday. “The Kimberley & District Chamber of Commerce are expecting over 200 bocce teams to participate in the Canadian Bocce Championships, as well as a well-attended concert at Reggae Fest in the Civic Centre on July 16th. The Julyfest Homecoming Parade, and Kids Fest are sure to be fun for the whole family during this year’s Best of the Fests.

“The Chamber is aware of current labour negotiations between all parties with the City if Kimberley. The Chamber appreciates the support received from Kimberley’s council, management and staff in past Julyfests; as well as the involvement received from other community groups.  The Chamber and Julyfest organizers ensure that all events will occur in a safe and fun manner.

“Julyfest is a community event that is planned and operated solely by the Chamber of Commerce.  The Chamber’s Board and staff, along with tremendous support from volunteers and our sponsors, will again ensure that this Julyfest will be a success.”

Guarnery says volunteer recruitment for the festival has been going very well and there are a couple of new community groups involved as well.

“We are doing very well but you can never have too many volunteers,” he said.
