The Jill of All Trades event debuts at Okanagan College’s (OC) Kelowna campus on Wednesday, May 15.

One hundred young women from high schools across the Okanagan, Similkameen, and Shuswap will learn from successful women all this week.

OC is hosting Jill of All Trades for the first time this year, led by instructors and female industry mentors.

They include construction business owner Sandy Morris, aircraft maintenance engineer Amanda Kury from KF Aerospace and Krista Ohman-Relph, an electrician and crew chief at BC Hydro.

“I hope in some small way I can show the girls where they can take their careers,” Morris said. “There are so many different areas to go into and progress to, even owning your own business.”

OC Manager of Trades Programming, Sara Cousins, said the college is committed to supporting women in trades and promoting diversity within the industry.

“Our goal is to continue to develop the workforce of the future and increase the number of tradespeople overall in our region and the province,” she added.

Jill of All Trades features hands-on workshops in motor vehicle maintenance, and manufacturing and construction trades.
