Parcels, presents and holiday greetings are being ripped off in the North Okanagan.

Several Canada Post community mailboxes were broken into overnight Dec. 20 in the Westshore Road area off Westside Road.

“At this time of year, mailboxes are an attractive target for thieves and we encourage everyone to not let mail and packages build up and make sure they are checking and emptying their mail frequently,” said Const. Chris Terleski, Vernon North Okanagan RCMP media relations officer. “We also want to remind anyone to report any missing, lost, or stolen mail.”

North Westside residents were shocked to find mailboxes broken into on Westshore, Columbia Way, Mountain Drive and Lakewood roads.

“That is terrible. My kids won’t be getting their stocking stuffers for sure now,” said Jessica Cousens in response to a social media post.

Diane Nutter said she has never seen anything this bad out there before.

“Replacing boxes costs us all money. We sure need a solution to this problem…fast”

Dustin Tron echoed the RCMP reminder.

“Remember to check your mail on the regular so the waste of skin that likes to do this doesn’t get your goods.”

Two mailboxes in the Middleton Mountain area were also broken into Dec. 14. Three arrests were made in relation to those thefts.

RCMP say no suspects have been identified in the Westshore thefts.
