Castlegar residents now have additional options for recyclable materials which are not collected as part of the city’s curbside recycling collection services.

Plastic bags, Styrofoam and glass, and other flexible plastic packing are now being accepted at a new Recycle BC depot located at the Regional District of Central Kootenay (RDCK) Ootischenia landfill.

“New recycling services at the Ootischenia landfill will increase compatibility with the City of Castlegar curbside program by allowing residents to recycle more than before,” says Travis Barrington, RDCK Resource Recovery Technician. “Recyclable materials now collected at the new depot will help users put even less waste in the landfill.”

There are no changes to the City of Castlegar’s curbside recycling collection services or schedule. For more information, visit the city’s website at

The Ootischenia Recycle BC Depot is located at 670 Columbia Road. It is open Monday to Saturday from 8:30 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.
