Fire destroys Langley City garage

Firefighters contained a fire to one building Monday.

A Langley City garage burned on Monday night, but firefighters managed to stop the flames from spreading to the house.

Firefighters were called out on Sept. 26 at 6:56 p.m., said Langley City assistant fire chief Peter Methot.

Flames and smoke were pouring from the garage by the time firefighters arrived at the home in the 20700 block of 48th Avenue, said Methot.

A neighbour had already warned the residents and they were out of the house, Methot said. But the firefighters managed to keep the flames from spreading to the home itself.

“They were able to spend the night at home,” said Methot.

The cause is still under investigation. The fire may have been started by cleaning materials in the garage.

The fire department deployed two engines, including full time and on-call firefighters.
