The cost of water has been finalized in Enderby.
On Monday, council adopted the metered water rates bylaw.
“I would have preferred a lower base rate but if people reduce their leaks and people save water, we could see a serious drop in money,” said Earl Shipmaker, outgoing councillor, of the revenue needed to run the utility.
The bylaw sets the flat rate for a single-family home at $234, with a consumption charge of $1.30 per cubic metre.
Shipmaker is pleased the bylaw is based on what the utility needs to operate and won’t be bolstering reserves.
If, at the end of the year, the consumption charge ends up providing a surplus, the city will provide a rebate on the flat rate in the following year.
