Air quality continues to be poor in Vernon where a dust advisory lingers into its third day.

The Ministry of Environment and Climate Change Strategy in collaboration with the Interior Health Authority issued a dust advisory for Vernon on Feb. 14.

“The advisory remains in effect due to high concentrations of coarse particulate matter that are expected to persist until there is precipitation, dust suppression or a change in traffic patterns,” the advisory reads.

Levels tend to be highest around busy roads and industrial operations.

As of Friday morning, concentrations in Vernon are 69.6, almost four times that of Kelowna’s 18.8.

The provincial air quality objective for PM10 is 50 micrograms per cubic metre (µg/m3 ), averaged over 24 hours.

There is no snow in the forecast until Saturday night, with just a 30 per cent chance according to Environment Canada. There is also a 30 per cent chance of flurries Sunday, which grows to 60 per cent chance of rain and then flurries Monday.

Therefore the advisory is likely to remain in effect until the snow, or rain, flies.
