It’s a special day as Beta Sigma Phi welcomes 2017’s first Cowichan Lake baby.

Cowichan Lake’s first baby of 2017 is Benjamin Joseph Ratte.

He was born at home in Lake Cowichan on Saturday, Jan. 14, weighing in at eight pounds three ounces.

His proud parents, Brandi Drew and Donald Ratte, were presented with a baby gift basket by Rolli Gunderson on behalf of Xi Gamma Kappa, the local chapter of Beta Sigma Phi sorority.

The group gives out a gift basket annually to the first baby of the year for the Cowichan Lake area.

It took a bit longer to find out who that was this year because the little fellow (Mr. Sleepyhead in the photo) was born at home.
