At its Dec. 14 meeting, Courtenay council approved a development permit with variances for a mixed-use building at 1978 Cliffe Ave.
Highstreet Ventures of Kelowna has amended its application to include 16 additional residential suites on the second floor, and to decrease the height of the building.
A traffic study supported the company’s plan to extend Riverside Lane from 20th to 19th Street, concluding traffic movement and safety will improve with access to the signalized intersection at 19th. Some residents were concerned about motorists using Riverside as a short-cut to avoid the 17th Street intersection.
The City will collect an estimated $167,312 in Development Cost Charges. It will also acquire about 130 metres of new road on Riverside and 60 metres of new walkway along the Courtenay Riverway.
