Five-pin bowlers excel

Brechin Lanes sent a full contingent of athletes and coaches to B.C. championships.

Nanaimo’s five-pin bowlers didn’t leave many pins standing at provincials.

Brechin Lanes sent a full contingent of athletes and coaches to compete at Youth Bowling Canada’s B.C. championships earlier this month at centres in Langley and Surrey.

Carver Stephens was Brechin’s big winner, finishing first in bantam boys’ singles. The provincial championship advances Stephens to the YBC championships, to be held in May at venues in Ottawa and in Gatineau, Que.

Several other Brechin bowlers had top-three finishes at provincial championships. Hailey Plested took silver in her bantam girls’ singles category and Mikayla Eby earned bronze in senior girls’ singles. Also winning bronze was Brechin’s junior girls’ team consisting of Selena Spracklin, Maranda Eby, Natalie McCallum and Tessa Portman, as well as the senior girls’ team of Mikhayla Knott, Cheyenne Walker, Lauren Provencal and Chloe Moniz.
