Burns Lake Mayor Chris Beach is proposing that council start a newsletter to “communicate directly” to the public.
“I hope there’s interest to start putting out a monthly or bi-monthly newsletter to communicate directly to the community on what we’re doing, what we’re accomplishing as a council,” Mayor Beach asked council during last week’s council meeting.
Councillor Susan Schienbein said she was “definitely interested.”
“I think it would be great,” she said. “I know we used to do a newsletter in the past and it was sometimes quite a large document, so even if we did a smaller version I think that would be a great addition to our communications.”
Councillor Michael Riis-Christianson agreed with the idea of starting a newsletter, as long as the municipality does not use “too much paper” and this project doesn’t become an “onerous task” for village staff.
Councillor Kelly Holliday suggested that council use both social media and a regular newsletter to communicate to the public.
Council has asked village staff to prepare a report detailing the expected costs and what the options are for a regular newsletter.
