B.C.'s police watchdog has filed a report to the B.C. Prosecution Service to consider charging a Port Moody police officer.
A Port Moody police officer attempted a traffic stop of a black motorcycle on July 25, 2023, but the motorcyle didn't stop and the officer didn't follow, according to an information bulletin from the Independent Investigations Office of B.C. Monday (June 10).
The officer broadcast the information to other Port Moody officers.
A different Port Moody police officer, driving an SUV, saw a motorcycle driving toward them near the intersection o Valour and Glenayre drives a short time later.
The IIO says there was a collision between the motorcycle and the police SUV, with the rider of the motorcycle being seriously injured.
Through the police watchdog's investigation, interim chief civilian director Sandra J. Hentzen determined there are reasonable grounds to "believe that one officer may have committed offences" with the use of their police vehicle.
The Independent Investigations Office of B.C. has forwarded its report to the B.C. Prosecution Service, which will determine if anyone should be charged.
