Bus hits pedestrian near Surrey Memorial Hospital

Crash comes as ICBC marks Pedestrian Safety Month in response to hike in pedestrian deaths, injuries

A pedestrian was sent to hospital after being hit by a bus in Surrey, police say.

The man was hit Tuesday (Oct. 24) at King George Boulevard and 96 Avenue near Surrey Memorial Hospital at about 3:15 p.m., Surrey RCMP said.

Police are asking motorists to avoid the area for at least a few hours.

Surrey has had six fatal pedestrian collisions so far this year as ICBC marks Pedestrian Safety Month in response to a “sharp increase” in pedestrian deaths and injuries, particularly between October and January.

In 2022, eight pedestrians were killed on Surrey’s roads. According to ICBC, 43 per cent of crashes involving pedestrians happen during those months as weather and visibility worsen.
