Volunteer on a board, or contribute another way

Kelowna Community Resources keeps track of so many ways you can volunteer in your community.

Here are some of the newest volunteer opportunities to consider.

The Society of Hope is looking for two new directors for their board.

This Christian, faith-based organization has become the largest non-profit housing charity in the Interior of B.C. with an annual operating budget in excess of $5 million.

The society is seeking individuals with strong leadership skills and a desire to serve. Successful applicants will be collaborative, facilitative and inclusive. Ideal candidates will bring networking and professional skills to the board table.

To apply, send your resume or bio to: Society of Hope, attn: Chairman, Governance Committee, #101-2055 Benvoulin Court, Kelowna, B.C., V1Y 2C7 or email hope.admin@shaw.ca.

Okanagan Boys and Girls Clubs wants event volunteers for their May 31 fundraiser called Capital One Race for Kids.

If you have a few hours to give, they have something for you to do. You could help with set-up or registration (8-11 a.m.), checkpoints (11 a.m.-4 p.m. ) or closing ceremonies (2-5 p.m.)

The race starts and finishes at the Jaycees Downtown Youth Centre, 1633 Richter St.

If this interests you, contact Tobilynn at tsiemens@boysandgirlsclubs.ca or visit www.raceforkids.ca to register as a volunteer.

The Canadian Red Cross has a variety of openings with their Health Equipment Loan Program (H.E.L.P.).

This is a vital service because it lends medical equipment such as wheelchairs, walkers, crutches, canes and bathroom equipment on a short-term basis to people of all ages who are recovering from surgery, illness or injury.

You could help with equipment maintenance, customer service, data entry, equipment cleaning and maintenance or as a team leader.

Contact Brenda Sharhon at 250-491-8443 or bsharhon@redcross.ca for details.
