ACTIVE ADULTS: Busy summer continues at South Surrey Rec Centre

Our beautiful summer has the South Surrey Recreation Centre flourishing with happy faces of all ages.

Our beautiful, long, hot summer has the South Surrey Recreation Centre flourishing with happy faces of all ages.

We celebrated our annual Family Festival this year at Bakerview Park, on July 13, partnering with parks and the RCMP Safety Fair. Wonderful artisans and  ethnic-food vendors – along with an amazing group of performers and musicians – added to the success of our multi-cultural event.

• The construction of our brand new addition at SSRC is progressing as scheduled, and you can now see how outstanding this facility will be when finished.

We will have our new spin” room ready for September, so get ready to try something new at the centre. There will be a spin class for every level of ability and age, for both drop-in and registered programs.

All other programs are functioning as they were before the renovations, with some programs being moved to our different halls to ensure a smooth transition into the fall season.

Fall leisure guides are available now, so either pick one up or go online to

• This summer heat has brought the Intergenerational Garden a bountiful harvest of this year’s plantings.

Participants of the centre have been enjoying fresh lettuce, Russian kale, carrots, all varieties of herbs, cucumbers and tomatoes, and peppers are just starting to ripen.

All the flowers and shrubs are in their full bloom with an array of colour.

Badminton and fitness participants (55+) have all enjoyed being in the garden for coffee times, and our preschoolers and Fun Zone summer campers have been watering plants, crafting, scavenger hunting or just enjoying the garden energy.

If you would like to visit the garden, drop by the centre and walk around to the back on the lower level,  or contact Terri at 604-592-6962.
