A Victoria-based all-female trio are on the roll.
Fox Glove, whose members are Renn Madeleine Bibeau and Claire Butterfield, and Chelsea Kanstrup, will release their sophomore album Roll On EP today.
“I think what we really wanted to really show was the growth that we’ve had in our sound since our last EP,” Bibeau said. “We’ve got a little bit of a darker sound now.”Roll On EP was produced by Victoria’s Sam Weber. The trio say the three-song EP is a listening journey.
“I feel like this record that we are releasing is a journey in itself,” Butterfield said. “Its a listening journey and I think that is something really special about and … we really focus on making them [albums] a listening experience.”
Fox Glove will showcase some of their new tunes when they perform at Tiger Mountain on Saturday (Oct. 10). Their stop in the Harbour City is part of a small tour that includes stops in Duncan and Qualicum Beach.
“I am so stoked,” Bibeau said. “It is our first go around on the Island … and we are excited to share our last album with everyone and of course the new EP.”Fox Glove was formed after all three met while participating with the University of Victoria’s vocal Jazz ensemble in 2011.”It was an awesome decision,” Butterfield said.
Since then, the trio have performed regularly throughout Victoria. Last year Fox Glove made it to the regional finals of CBC’s Searchlight Competition and they had their song Does This Scare You Yet? appear on the soundtrack for the film Two 4 One. That same year the trio also performed at Rifflandia in Victoria.”It was such an awesome time. We met so many awesome people at Rifflandia last year and a lot of those friendships have carried from Rifflandia,” Bibeau said.Fox Glove performs at 7:30 p.m. with Nat. Tickets are $15.
