Staggers and Jaggs, Ewan Macintyre Band at Tractorgrease

The Staggers and Jaggs perform April 13 and the Ewan Macintyre Band is onstage April 15 at Tractorgrease in Chilliwack.

There will be a few opportunities to hear live music at Tractorgrease Cafe next weekend.

First, The Staggers and Jaggs perform on Thursday, April 13.

This six-piece folk/jazz/alt-blues band from East Vancouver is a curious concoction of characters with hauntingly nostalgic sounds.

The lineup includes Conrad Shynkar on guitar and vocals, Sabrina Robson on vocals and harmonica, Blake MacKay on keys and strange sound effects, Anni M. Fables on viola, Shannon Marie on upright bass, and Kenan Sungar on drums.

They have a new full-length album scheduled for release in May.

The Staggers and Jaggs play Thursday, April 13 at Tractorgrease from 7 to 9:30 p.m. Tickets $12.

Next is the Ewan Macintyre Band bringing its Sideways Spring Tour to Tractorgrease on April 15.

Together with his band from Canada and Scotland, Macintyre weaves his own blend of folk pop traditions. Hailed as “a welcome moment in the future of Scottish music,” live shows feature beautiful string arrangements, ripping solos, soaring harmonies, and heartfelt lyrical content.

In anticipation of his forthcoming album release in late 2017 the band will tour across Canada, the UK and northern Europe promoting Macintyre’s latest single Champagne in Heaven. Written and performed for the funeral of Macintyre’s grandfather in October 2016, the song is a rounded pensive perspective on life. Themes of time, love, loss, and adventure prevail and are dealt with through a mixture of sincerity and humour.

The Ewan Macintyre Band and its Sideways Spring Tour is at Tractorgrease April 15 at 7 p.m. Tickets $12.
