Glean insight into the art on display at the gallery

Everyone is welcome at the Campbell River Art Gallery Thursday, May 19 at 6:30 p.m. to learn more about two solo exhibitions on display.

Join Curator Julia Prudhomme for a talk about The Braid Harvesters by Amalie Atkins and Amulet by Kiarra Albina, as well as light refreshments.

Atkins is a multidisciplinary artist who lives and works in Saskatoon.

She creates cinematic fables through a blend of film, textiles, installations, performance, and photography.

The exhibition features an immersive fort in which the viewer is invited to enter to view a film. Atkins works in 16mm film and creates the costumerie, fort materials, and props from her background in textiles. The Braid Harvesters is sponsored by Tremain Media.

Albina is a Calgary-based artist who works within and between the disciplines of drawing, painting, traditional animation, bookmaking, installation, and sound. Amulet features a new suite of works on paper that are magical and figurative. Amulet is sponsored by Sandy Baker of RE/MAX Check Realty.

Both exhibitions remain at the Gallery until June 2.

The Campbell River Art Gallery is open Tuesday to Saturday from 12 to 5 p.m and starting May 23 Monday to Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 pm.
