The lower bowl of BC Place Stadium is now sold-out for the BC Lions’ home-opener football game Saturday afternoon (June 17), but upper-bowl seats are still available.

LL Cool J will headline a 3 p.m. concert inside the stadium before the Lions face Edmonton Elks, with the kickoff at 4 p.m.

A “Backyard Party” presented by PlayNow Sports is a two-day affair starting at 4 p.m. Friday on Robson Street. The CFL on TSN panel will broadcast outside Friday while the Saturday bash features a concert by The Trews.

“The response for this year’s Concert Kickoff has been tremendous, and we are very excited for a full weekend to celebrate the return of Lions football to BC Place,” said Lions president Duane Vienneau.

On Friday (June 16) the Lions and Save-On-Foods announced a new multi-year naming rights partnership that will see the CFL team’s home field be re-branded as Save-On-Foods Field at BC Place.

Meantime, 40th-anniversary celebrations for BC Place Stadium involve a contest with a chance to win “a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity” to win two free tickets to every public event there in 2024 — a grand prize worth close to $6,000.

Western Canada’s largest multi-purpose event venue was opened 40 years ago Monday, on June 19, 1983.
