The Bay Penticton raises $1,600 for Survivorship dragon boat team

When The Bay gave the Penticton breast cancer survivor dragonboat team over $1,600 raised from their annual gala, the Survivorship paddlers gave that money right back into the new oncology clinic being built at the hospital.

The Bay raised funds during their Gala beauty event through a silent auction. The team channeled that money to the South Okanagan Similkameen Medical Foundation, specifically allocated to support the oncology unit at Penticton Regional Hospital and ‘Tomorrow’s Hope’, a volunteer-driven peer support group for individuals who have been diagnosed with breast cancer.

The SOS Medical Foundation was ‘tickled pink’ to receive a cheque from the Survivorship, said Lissette Little, SOS Medical Foundation director of development.

Survivorship, comprised of breast cancer survivors from across the South Okanagan, has been paddling since 1999 and currently has seven teams from the Penticton area. They are always looking for more team members. No previous dragon boat experience is required.
