After providing support during the 2023 fires, the Lakeview Community Centre (LCC) now needs a helping hand of its own.

Located in Anglemont, which was only on evacuation alert at the time, the centre played a large role in feeding firefighters and evacuees, as well as helping displaced residents from affected areas.

“I saw first-hand the way board members and local residents opened their homes and their doors to the LCC to help, stepping up in any and all ways they could to help assist those who were battling the firestorm that was attacking our neighbours to the south,” LCC director Jim Leduc said in a email. “Although we are very thankful for all the donations that followed, our centre still needs fundraisers to keep the doors open.”

To that end, the LCC is hosting a Beat the Winter Blues event that will feature live music by Leduc, Daveton Jones, Ryan Murray, Stephen Moore, Henry Sahm and special guest Megan Abel. They’ll play blues, reggae and more, harmonizing vocals with guitars, congas, a keyboard and drums.

“Music is one way that helps people forget, even if it is just for a few hours, all that our community has been through,” Leduc added.

The evening will also include a 50/50 draw, a cash (and debit/credit) bar as well as table snacks, though finger food potluck items would also be welcomed.

Everyone is invited to come Beat the Winter Blues at the centre on Saturday, Jan. 27, with doors open at 6:30 p.m. and music starting at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $30 and available at the Ross Creek Store or LCC director Darla Dingeldein at 250-299-2158.
